Anthropic’s Claude Surpasses $1 Million in Mobile App Revenue

After 16 weeks, Anthropic’s AI app Claude has reached a significant milestone: it has crossed the $1 million mark in gross mobile app revenue across iOS and Android. This achievement is notable, especially considering that nearly half of this revenue comes from users in the United States.

Data from Appfigures Reveals Claude’s Market Performance

According to new data from Appfigures, an app intelligence firm, Claude has generated significant revenue despite ranking behind top rival ChatGPT. While ChatGPT is currently at number one by overall downloads and number 26 by revenue in the U.S. on iOS, Claude ranks only 95th in the Productivity category by downloads and 68th in that category by revenue.

Claude’s Mobile App Has Seen a Steady Growth

Earlier this year, we reported that Claude’s mobile app had seen a relatively modest reception for its first week on the market, with only 157,000 global downloads. In contrast, ChatGPT had seen 480,000 mobile app installs within the first five days of its iOS-only launch in the U.S.

Claude Has Surpassed Competitors in Revenue

Although Claude trailed behind ChatGPT, which reached the $1 million revenue milestone in just three weeks, it has come ahead of other AI app competitors. Microsoft’s Copilot and Perplexity took 19 weeks and 22 weeks to hit this figure, respectively.

Top Markets for Claude’s Mobile App

The largest market for Claude by downloads is the U.S., accounting for 32.5% of its mobile app installs. This is followed by India (9.6%), Japan (6.8%), the U.K. (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). Combined, these top five markets account for 57.2% of Claude’s mobile app downloads.

Claude’s Monetization on Mobile

Similar to its download numbers, the U.S. leads in revenue with a 48.4% share. This is followed by Japan (6.7%), Germany (4.3%), the U.K. (4.3%), and South Korea (2.8%). Together, these markets account for 66.8% of Claude’s mobile app revenue.

Challenges Ahead for Claude

Beyond its considerable burn rate as a startup, Claude faces specific challenges in the mobile consumer market. The upcoming launch of Apple Intelligence will likely offer Siri users direct access to ChatGPT via their iPhones. This could further widen the gap between Claude and ChatGPT.
